Letter from the president

Dear Fellow Pilot,

Thank you for your interest in charitable general aviation flying. Please allow me a moment to introduce the Volunteer Pilots Association (VPA). The member pilots of the VPA provide free air transportation for needy people who must travel longer distances to seek medical attention not readily available in their area and to assist with the recovery of donor organs. We are searching for pilots and aircraft owners who have a desire to perform this much needed community service. We have no required meetings and do not ask you to pay any membership dues.

The VPA is a non-profit, charitable, 501(c)3, tax-exempt organization and as such, your direct expenses associated with a flight could be tax deductible. We suggest that you consult your accountant or tax planner. Please take a moment to review the enclosed descriptive literature. Please contact us if you have any questions about our organization.

The VPA is one of several organizations in the U.S. providing free air transportation for medical purposes. You are encouraged to join as many organizations as you choose, depending on how often you would like to fly. The more organizations you join, the more chances you have of being called for a flight. Although similar in nature, these organizations are operated independently but have widely overlapping areas of operation. To find out about the organizations recruiting pilots in your area call the National Patient Air Transportation Hotline at 800-296-1217, or visit their web site at www.npath.org.

We hope that you will be interested in joining the VPA. Please complete the application form and return it with a copy of each of the following:

  • Your pilot's license
  • Your medical certificate
  • The last page of your log book showing total times
  • Any pages showing additional rating or endorsements

Best regards,

Kevin Sell
President
